Immigration Assistant
BB2 Middle Level


The Australian High Commission is seeking a suitably qualified person to fill the vacancy for the position of Immigration Assistant in the Visa Office of the High Commission.

The Visa Office is a busy and challenging environment with a team-based structure and a commitment to client service. The successful applicants should be willing to work flexibly in a dynamic and challenging environment. The selection criteria and duty statement/job description for the position are attached.

All applications must include Curriculum Vitae, a copy of the IELTS Test (if available) and a statement of claims addressing the selection criteria not exceeding two pages. Please note that all applications must include claims to the selection criteria without which the application will not be considered.

Subject to the successful completion of a six-month probationary period the successful applicant will be offered a two-year contract. The contract may be extended subject to agreement between the employer and employee.

The commencing salary will be Rs. 18,933/- per month in the range Rs.18, 933 to Rs.22, 265.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The New Delhi Office of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has a diverse caseload covering India, Nepal and Bhutan. The DIAC Office is divided into teams, which process a variety of temporary and permanent visa categories, or which have administrative, integrity checking or compliance functions. Each visa processing team is managed by an Australian-based Senior Migration Officer, who is assisted by one or more locally engaged Team Leaders.

Immigration Assistants are required to undertake tasks including checking documents, input data, maintain electronic and hard copy file records and answer client enquiries by telephone and e-mail. They may also be required to assess some visa criteria, undertake travel within India and to assist with interpreting for interviews and investigations.

DUTY STATEMENT

Immigration Assistants carry out a range of tasks which may include any of the following:

• Undertake verification checks of documentation lodged by visa applicants, including telephone checks, sending correspondence and some site visits, as required.

• Accurately record data for visa application processing.

• Assemble and maintain file records, and ensure data integrity in electronic systems.

• Answer client enquiries, including telephone and e-mail enquiries relating to visa requirements.

• Assess basic visa application criteria and make recommendations to decision-makers.

SELECTION CRITERIA

• Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of visa requirements, including an understanding of legislative and policy requirements, and an ability to research relevant information from a variety of resources.

• Familiarity with and ability to use technology including electronic communication and information systems.

• Good written and oral English communication skills.

• Ability to provide quality client service with a high level of integrity, including engaging in ethical work practices, and providing clear and accurate information to clients and stakeholders in a timely manner.

• Sound organisational and time-management skills.

• Ability to work in a team environment.
